Review: Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach
8.5/10
Excellent
Best Bali Hotels score
Hotel Indigo is an easy hotel to like. The breakfast is excellent, there’s an adults-only pool, and the rooms are a good size for the money.
The catches: you cross a small lane to reach the sand, and there’s no kids club. I think it’s a couples-and-mates hotel first, and a family hotel only for older kids.
- Food
The breakfast is the best thing here, and SugarSand sits on the sand.
- Service
Polished and warm, with rooms kept spotless.
- Pools
Three main pools, including an adults-only one, plus a shallow kids pool.
- Rooms
50 square metres with a balcony daybed. The ground floor is the one to avoid.
- Value
About the same money as Alila at entry level, and breakfast is often extra.
- Location
At the quieter Double Six end, a short lane from the sand. Dinner is a Grab ride.
- Kids
A kids pool and an activity timetable, but no kids club, and a standard room takes only one child.
Things I loved
- Breakfast. I think it’s the best thing about the hotel. There’s a big buffet plus à la carte, and you can eat it looking at the sea.
- The adults-only Secret Garden pool. It has cabanas and daybeds, and no cannonballs. That’s where I’d spend my afternoons.
- The rooms. The standard rooms are 50 square metres, with a balcony daybed. That’s much bigger than the Courtyard’s, and they’re kept spotless.
- SugarSand. The beachfront restaurant relaunched in July 2026 with a new menu, and it’s the sunset spot. Book a table ahead.
- The design. I think it feels more like a Bali hotel than a chain one.
- The spa. Sava Spa is good value, and it’s well under what you’d pay at the W.
What could be better
- It’s not quite on the beach. You cross a small public lane to reach the sand, and motorbikes use it as a shortcut. It’s a few steps from the back gate, but don’t book it expecting to walk off the lawn onto the beach.
- No kids club. There’s an activity timetable, but the hotel says it changes and some activities cost extra. It’s not a drop-off option for under-5s.
- A standard room doesn’t fit four. It takes two adults and one child under 12, with one extra bed or cot. A family of four needs interconnecting rooms or a villa.
- The ground floor. You lose the view, and people walk past all day. I’d go higher.
- Hallway noise. You can hear doors and footsteps at night, so light sleepers should ask for a room away from the lifts.
- The location. It’s at the south end of Seminyak, a Grab ride from Eat Street and the Petitenget beach clubs. There’s a mall shuttle, but only twice a day.
Rooms
There are about 290 rooms, suites and villas. It opened in 2017, and no refit has been announced.
Every Standard Room is 50 square metres, with a king or twins, a shower and a balcony daybed. It takes two adults and one child under 12.
- Standard Room: at the side of the building, looking over the neighbourhood. I’d skip it.
- Standard Room Garden View: the same room on an upper floor, over the gardens.
- Standard Room Courtyard Access: ground floor, with a terrace a few steps from the pool. People walk past all day, so I’d go higher.
- Standard Room Partial Ocean View: the sea through the trees, plus the pools and gardens. It’s the pick of the standard rooms.
- One King Bed Suite: 69 square metres, with a living area, a walk-in wardrobe and a big balcony with a daybed. It’s king only and sleeps three. It comes plain, Garden View, Courtyard Access or Partial Ocean View, and all but the plain one get a semi-outdoor tub.
- Premium Suite: 107 square metres, looking down over the main pool to a slice of sea.
- Sagar Suite: 115 square metres, with a second sitting room, a bar and a home theatre.
- One Bedroom Villa: 300 square metres, with a private pool, a kitchen and a 24-hour butler. The honeymoon option.
- Two Bedroom Villa: 800 square metres, with a king, two singles, a pool, a kitchen and a butler. It sleeps four adults and two kids, so it’s one for two families.
As a couple, I’d book a Partial Ocean View as high up as you can get. For a family of four, I’d book two interconnecting Standard Rooms, or a Suite with a Standard next door, and get the interconnecting door confirmed in writing.
Pools and kids
There are three main pools, plus a shallow kids pool. The villas have their own pools too.
- The main pool: with the Cave Pool lounge alongside. It gets a lot of sun, so grab a shaded lounger early.
- The Secret Garden pool: adults only, with cabanas and daybeds. The best spot in the hotel for a quiet arvo.
There’s no kids club. The hotel runs an activity timetable that changes from week to week, and some sessions cost extra. Babysitting is extra too.
With kids aged about 8 and up who swim well, it works. With toddlers, I’d book Alila for its kids club, or the Courtyard down the road.
Food
- SugarSand is the beachfront restaurant, open from breakfast until late. It relaunched in July 2026 with seasonal local produce and handmade pasta. Book ahead for sunset.
- Makase is the casual Southeast Asian restaurant, open all day.
- Breakfast Club Seminyak sits on the beach side, from 7 am to 3 pm.
- Tree Bar, the Cave Pool lounge and Pottery Cafe cover drinks and snacks, and room service runs 24 hours.
Breakfast is the big one. It’s a huge spread, and the sea-view tables are the ones to grab.
For dinner, I’d do SugarSand once for sunset, then Grab up to Eat Street or Petitenget.
Location
Hotel Indigo is on Jalan Camplung Tanduk, at the Double Six end of Seminyak. That’s the quieter south end, closer to Legian than to the Petitenget beach clubs.
The beach is a few steps away, across a small lane. It’s a surf beach, so swim only between the red and yellow flags. The sunsets are the reason to go down there.
Eat Street and the beach clubs are a Grab ride north. The hotel runs a shuttle to the Seminyak Village mall at 11 am and 4 pm.
The airport is about 30 minutes away, and 60 to 90 in late-afternoon traffic.
Overall
Hotel Indigo is a polished, well-run hotel with one of the best breakfasts in Seminyak and an adults-only pool to hide in. It’s a few steps and a lane from the sand, which is close enough for most people.
I’d book it as a couple or with mates, in a partial ocean view room. With older kids it works too, as long as you book the interconnecting rooms.
Book it if you want a great breakfast, an adults-only pool and a big room, a few steps from the sunset. Skip it if you need a drop-off kids club, one room that sleeps four, or sand straight off the lawn.
Alternatives nearby
- Alila Seminyak. On the sand at Petitenget, with a kids club and sunset infinity pools. The entry rooms are about the same money, so I’d go there if you want the beach and a kids club.
- Courtyard by Marriott Bali Seminyak Resort. On the same street, cheaper, with a kids club and a family room for four. Smaller rooms and no beach, but easier on the family budget.
- W Bali – Seminyak. Bigger rooms, a beach club and a bigger scene, for roughly double the money. Pick it for a party.
