Review: Paradisus by Meliá Bali
8.2/10
Excellent
Best Bali Hotels score
Paradisus is the easiest family week in Nusa Dua. It has a water park, two kids clubs, a teens club and every meal and drink sorted, in a resort renovated top to bottom in 2026.
It’s best for families with kids aged about 6 to 16, in a Family Concierge suite. With toddlers, or kids who eat like sparrows, I’d book the Grand Hyatt instead.
- Kids
A water park with four slides, two kids clubs and a teens club. Nothing for under-4s but babysitting.
- Pools
Four lagoon pools, a kids pool and the water park. The main pool is kid central.
- Service
Warm, and quick to fix things when they go wrong.
- Rooms
Freshly renovated, but the entry room sleeps only three and the bathrooms are small.
- Food
Seven restaurants on the plan. The Japanese is the pick, and the breakfast buffet gets repetitive.
- Location
On the beach inside the gates, 10 minutes on foot from Bali Collection.
- Value
Great if your family eats and drinks a lot. Poor value with under-6s.
Things I loved
- The water park. The Aquazone has four slides, fountains, splash zones and a huge ball pit. It’s the best kids’ water set-up in Nusa Dua.
- Kids clubs until 9 pm. There are two clubs for ages 4 to 12, and the one by the beach stays open until 9 pm. That’s a proper dinner for two, most nights.
- A real teens club. It has bowling lanes, table tennis, a pool table and karaoke rooms. Hardly any Bali resort bothers with teenagers.
- One price for the week. Breakfast, lunch and dinner, soft drinks, local beer, house wine, 24-hour room service and a minibar restocked daily. In Nusa Dua you eat inside the gates anyway, so I’d rather pay once.
- It’s fresh. The old Meliá Bali closed in October 2024 and reopened as Paradisus in February 2026. Nothing looks tired.
- Family Concierge. Its own check-in with a playground, a family lounge, breakfast at the Spanish restaurant and the kids club every day. I think it’s the best family upgrade in Bali.
What could be better
- The entry room sleeps three. The Premium room is 40 square metres, with a maximum of 3 people. A family of four can’t book it.
- Seven restaurants, not eight. The eighth is only for guests in The Reserve, the adults-only section.
- Not everything’s included. Premium spirits, champagne, the spa and motorised water sports cost extra. The Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve gala dinners are compulsory and charged on top.
- The rooms are long and narrow. The bathrooms are small, and a few rooms have drain smells. If yours does, ask to move on day one.
- The noon rush. Check-in is at 3 pm, but everyone arrives at lunch to start eating, so the front desk queues at midday.
- Breakfast gets samey. The main buffet repeats itself by day four. Family Concierge guests eat at the Spanish restaurant instead, which is better.
- Eating off the plan is expensive. On a bed-and-breakfast rate, lunch and dinner cost far more than outside the gates.
Rooms
Every room was refitted in the renovation. They’re new and clean, but the layout is long and narrow, so they feel smaller than the square metres suggest.
The rooms come in three tiers. The standard rooms get the all-inclusive and nothing more.
- Premium Room: 40 square metres, with a king, a single sofa bed and a shower. It sleeps three at most. Fine for a couple, too small for most families.
- Junior Suite Garden View: 50 square metres, with a king and a double sofa bed. It sleeps four.
- Junior Suite Lagoon Access: 60 square metres on the ground floor, with a terrace that opens onto the lagoon pool. The kids will love it. The catch is that you can see straight into your neighbours’ terraces.
- Suite Duplex: 60 square metres over two levels, with a king and a double sofa bed.
- Connecting rooms: the Premium, Junior Suites and Duplex all come as connecting pairs, at the price of two rooms.
The Family Concierge rooms add the family lounge and check-in, a family breakfast area, a family pool and beach, and the kids club every day.
- Family Concierge Junior Suite: 50 square metres, or 60 with Lagoon Access, with a king, a single and a bunk bed. From November 2026 it sleeps five.
- Family Concierge Suite Duplex: 60 square metres over two levels. The parents’ king is upstairs, and the kids sleep downstairs on a tatami bed and a tent bed.
- Family Concierge connecting suites: the Junior Suites and the Duplex come as connecting pairs for bigger families.
The Reserve rooms are for over-16s only, with their own lobby, pool, beach cabanas and restaurant. Breakfast is at Santé, with cocktails and afternoon tea every day.
- Reserve Room, Junior Suite and Suite Duplex: the same layouts as the standard rooms, from 40 to 60 square metres.
- Reserve Master Suite: 80 square metres, with a garden view or Lagoon Access.
- Reserve Presidential and Grand Presidential Suites: 176 and 236 square metres, the bigger one over two levels.
- Reserve Garden Villas: one or two bedrooms, each with a private pool and a butler.
For a family of four, I’d book a Family Concierge Junior Suite. It’s the bunks, the free kids club and the better breakfast in one booking. With older kids who want a door, I’d book the Family Concierge Suite Duplex.
Kids under 2 stay free, and from 12 they’re charged as adults.
As a couple, I’d book a Reserve Junior Suite Lagoon Access. My take on The Reserve is in the best resorts in Nusa Dua for couples.
Pools and kids
There are four lagoon-style pools winding through the gardens. The main one is where the families are, so it’s busy and loud.
The kids pool is themed and shallow, and the water park sits next to it, with its own kids club alongside. It’s free for in-house guests.
The two kids clubs take ages 4 to 12. The beach club runs from 9 am to 9 pm, and the water park club from 10 am to 6 pm. Expect crafts, fish feeding, crab hunting, movie nights and a marshmallow roast at 6.
Family Concierge includes the kids club every day, plus cabanas at the water park. Under-4s get nothing but paid babysitting, which is why I don’t think it’s worth it with toddlers.
Food
Seven restaurants are open to most guests, and dinner is included at all of them.
- The Japanese restaurant does sushi and robatayaki. It’s the one I’d book first.
- The beachfront seafood restaurant is on the sand. I’d save it for a sunset dinner.
- The Indonesian restaurant runs a cultural performance every night. It’s a good one for the kids.
- The poolside shack next to the water park is where lunch happens.
The main buffet does breakfast, plus Middle Eastern and Spanish restaurants for the other nights. Book your dinners on day one, because the popular ones fill up.
Children aged 2 to 11 pay a child rate for the all-inclusive, so a toddler costs nearly as much to feed as a ten-year-old.
Location
Paradisus is inside the gated Nusa Dua area, right on the beach, between the big resorts in the middle of the bay. Bali Collection, with its restaurants and a supermarket, is about 10 minutes away on foot.
The beach is calm and reef-protected, but it’s tidal like the rest of Nusa Dua. Swim at high tide and use the pools the rest of the day.
There’s nothing just outside the gates, not even a convenience store. That’s fine, because you’re not here to eat out.
Overall
Paradisus is my pick for families in Nusa Dua with school-age kids and teens. The water park, the late kids club and the teens club keep everyone busy, and you never reach for your wallet at lunch.
Book the right room, though. The Premium doesn’t fit four, and the Family Concierge suite is where this resort makes sense.
Book it if your kids are 6 or older and you want one price for the whole week. Skip it if you’ve got toddlers, you eat light, or you like walking out for dinner.
Alternatives nearby
- Grand Hyatt Bali. Five pools and a 50-metre slide for about half the price. The rooms are older and meals are extra.
- The Westin Resort Nusa Dua. A free kids club with a toddler area, and two double beds in a standard room. You pay as you go, so it suits under-6s and light eaters better.
- Conrad Bali. A big lagoon pool and a free kids club for mid-range money. The beach and the location are weaker.
